Paul, as you may have noticed, the system has already been 'hacked' within days by someone who took an fingerprint and printed it on/into latex, after which (s)he could pay groceries off someone else's account. Additional-factor identification and/or authentication would be on order ...

The likelihood of someone "planting" a fingerprint at the scene of a crime is negligible. Computers don't store the image of the print (or shouldn't) but a mathematical hash of it. It is not possible to recreate the image from the hash.
