Maybe when the security armchair quarterbacks of the world read this article they will understand the value of DETERRENCE and why not ALL security processes must be kept hidden from public knowledge. The deterrent value of a security process is nil if a potential adversary isn't aware of the security process, isn't it? Again - Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! A very timely commentary.

I agree with the above commenter on the value of deterrence. But it is important to note that the show of security best have some reality underneath.

In the Israeli guard example, there is the underlying reality that Israel has many people who have done military service and are reservists. So the attacker isn't sure if the fellow with a Galil or an M16 is well trained soldier or not. There's enough substance to the deterrence to make the theatre work.
