I would strongly suggest that anyone applying for a job refuse to sign the background screening consent until the employer has given you assurance that your personal and private information is NOT going to India or some other country. All of your US privacy rights disappear your data goes offshore. You will not even know who stole it. Good luck trying to dial the Bangalore or Mumbai police to get help.
